Drawing log overview

The drawing log is designed to track project plans and revisions. You have the option to upload the CAD, PDF, TIFF, or JPEG file and link it to the drawing log record.

About the Drawing Log

  • You can configure the drawing disciplines, such as architectural, civil, or electrical, in Settings > Feature Settings > Drawings and use them to categorize drawing log records.
  • The Drawings page provides two listing types, simple listing and card style. The latter will show the drawing thumbnail only if a file is linked to the drawing log record.
  • The Simple Listing and Card Style tabs show the latest drawing revision.
  • To create drawing log records without attachments, you can import a list using a Microsoft Excel file.
  • If a project contains different structures and prime contracts are set up for each, then prime contracts should be referenced on the drawing log records. You can then use the prime contracts as a filter.
  • If you use PDF files for drawings, you can use the Burst option when adding a drawing manually to create a separate drawing record for each page of the PDF file.
  • Thumbnails for uploaded files are created only if the file was uploaded after the October 18th, 2021 update. Drawing log records with files will that were uploaded prior to that date will not have a thumbnail.
  • External files that have been uploaded and linked to drawing records are typically shared with subcontractors and suppliers through invitations to bid (ITB) or requests for pricing (RFP).
  • You can reference drawing logs on CPRs, COs, SCOs, RFIs, submittals, and work orders.

Before you add drawing logs

  • Optional: Review and update the list of drawing disciplines in Settings > Feature Settings > Drawings.

Examples of drawings and external files

From a data entry point of view, scenarios 1 and 2 are the easiest to implement. However, for very large projects, scenario 3 may be required.

Scenario 1: One external file, such as a PDF file, that contains all sheets

Rev 0 Drawing Set - Original
Rev 1 Drawing Set - Revision 1
Rev 2 Drawing Set - Revision 2

Scenario 2: Multiple external files organized by discipline

Scenario 3: A record for each drawing sheet

To implement this type of scenario you can import drawings from a Microsoft Excel file, but you will not be able to upload external files. This would have to be done individually after importing the drawing log records.
